METAMASK - A GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS

I. WHAT IS METAMASK?

• MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet that enables users to store Ether and other ERC-20 tokens.
• The wallet can also be used to interact with decentralized applications or Dapps.

II. A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE OF METAMASK:

1. Install MetaMask to your browser

• You need to go to MetaMask official website: https://metamask.io, then click “Download” on your browser. For now, MetaMask only supports Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Microsoft Edge.
• For example: We use Chrome and want to download MetaMask for our Chrome browser.

• Then you will see the interface below. Click on “Add to Chrome”

• Continue by clicking “Add extension” to add MetaMask to your browser extensions

• Once you have installed MetaMask, click “Get Started” to continue.

2. Set up your wallet

2.1. Create a new wallet

• Choose “Create a wallet” to make a new Ethereum wallet. If you already have one, choose “Import wallet”.

• You will be asked if you want to help improve MetaMask. Click ‘No Thanks’ if this doesn’t interest you, otherwise click ‘I agree’.

• Pick a password that needs to be at least 8 characters long. We recommend using a password that contains a mixture of upper and lower-case letters, symbols, and numbers.
• Click on “I have read and agree to the Terms of Use” to enable the button “Create”
• Click on the button “Create” to complete creating your wallet.

• You will be asked to watch a short video to learn about Secret Recovery Phrase and how to keep your wallet safe. Click ‘Next’ if it doesn’t interest you.

2.1.1. Secret Backup Phrase (Seed Phrase)

• You will then be presented with your 12-word backup phrase. Click on the gray area to unlock the phrase.
• You should start writing this phrase down carefully with the words in the same order displayed on your screen. This phrase will be needed to recover your wallet should you ever lose access to your computer.

⚠️ Warning: Please be noted that anyone who knows your 12-word backup phrase will be able to access the funds in your MetaMask wallet, so please keep it private!

2.1.2. Confirm your Secret Backup Phrase

• Click on the given words in the box in the same order exactly as your seed phrase, then click “Confirm”.

• Click “All Done” to finish your wallet setup and you will be logged in automatically into MetaMask.

⚠️ Note: If you ever get logged out, you can log in easily by clicking the MetaMask icon on the browser’s extensions.

2.2. Import wallet

If you already have an account on MetaMask, you can always import your wallet by these steps:

• Choose the option “Import wallet”.

• You will be asked if you want to help improve MetaMask. Click ‘No Thanks’ if this doesn’t interest you, otherwise click ‘I agree’.

• Then, you need to enter your seed phrase in the right order and set a strong password.

• Once you have completed, click “Import”. That’s it, you have successfully imported your account to MetaMask.
• Click “All Done” to finish.

III. ADD NETWORK TO METAMASK

1. Click on the network selector button, you will see the list with all the networks to which you’ve already connected.

2. Click “Add Network” and you will go to the Settings screen. This is where you will add the information to connect to a blockchain network.

Below are some of the parameters of the most popular blockchain:

For example: We want to add Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to our network.

Once you complete all the fields, click “Save”.

3. After saving, you will receive the message: ““Binance Smart Chain” was successfully added!” and notice that the network has automatically been set to the one you just entered (the units are in BNB).

With these steps, you will be able to see all the custom networks the next time you access the network selector.
