NFT Tweet Tiles, a new blockchain feature, was introduced by the Twitter team less than 24 hours after Tesla CEO Elon Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of this social media.
According to the announcement by Twitter Dev, users of NFT Tweet Tiles will be able to display information about their digital collectibles, such as the NFT title and creator name, in a dedicated panel via tweets that link to a listing on a marketplace.
The feature is still under testing and working with four NFT platforms to try out the integration including Magic Eden, Rarible, Dapper Labs, and Jump.trade. However, as many users noted in the replies, it was interesting that the largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea, did not participate in the pilot test this time.
NFT Tweet Tiles is blockchain-agnostic; thus, all networks—including Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, etc.—are supported as long as the connections originate from a partner marketplace. The official also stated that only participants in the test group will be able to view the Tweet Tiles integration, which is "currently being tested with select Twitter users across iOS and web."
Since last year, Twitter has started embracing blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies. Twitter's "Tips" function, which enables users to tip their favorite accounts with bitcoin or actual money, was launched on September 23, 2021.
Twitter released its NFT verification function in January 2022, enabling Twitter Blue paid subscribers to upload their NFTs as profile pictures. The Web3 wallets Metamask, Argent, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet, Ledger Live, and Rainbow are compatible with the NFT authentication and profile tool.
