Twitter Locks Staff out of Offices as Hundreds of People Quit Their Jobs

Twitter's office buildings will be temporarily closed, effective immediately, the company has said.

Employees were told that the offices would reopen on November 21st, according to several sources. There is no official explanation for what has occurred.

The announcement comes amid reports that some staff decided to leave after the new owner, Elon Musk, ordered them to work "long hours at high intensity" or quit.

The new Twitter "Hardcore" policy

This week, Elon Musk reportedly told Twitter staff that they would "need to be incredibly hardcore" or commit to working long hours or leave the company.

According to the Washington Post, the company's new owner required employees' consent to the commitment in an email to the staff.

Those who did not sign up by Thursday, November 17th, will receive three months of severance pay. The company said earlier this month that it would lay off nearly half of its workforce.

Today's news that Twitter has temporarily closed its operations came amid reports that a considerable number of employees had resigned as a result of Mr. Musk's new terms.

To announce their resignation from the company, employees have begun tweeting using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouWorked and a saluting emoji.

There will probably be less than 2,000 individuals remaining after the dust settles today, a former Twitter employee who chose to remain anonymous told the press.

“I didn’t want to work for someone who threatened us over email multiple times about only ‘exceptional tweeps should work here’ when I was already working 60-70 hours weekly,” they said.

In response to a query on worries that Twitter was set to shut down after the notification about the closure of Twitter's offices was sent, Mr. Musk tweeted:

“The best people are staying, so I’m not super worried”.
